New Year's Eve at the Park

On New Year's Eve day we went hung out with Katherine and James and their kids as well as Lillia. Lillia's mom had just had a baby AND eye surgery to boot so we took her one day to give mom a bit of a break. We all had a great time together and it was a beautiful day. I LOVE the shots that Katherine took of the boys and I as well as the one of the three adults racing to see who could find a lunch solution the fastest on their cell phones. Bookmark and Share

Our Turkey Day

Holidays are always tough with both of our families far away, but we have always been graciously welcomed into others' homes our past three Thanksgivings here in Austin. This year we spent it with our dear friends Katherine and James at Katherine's family's abode in Driftwood. Katherine took some great shots of us that I thought I would share here.I LOVE this one Katherine took of Sam and I: Another one by K of Ben and Josh in a post dinner food coma: I don't know what it is that I love so much about this one, but I do (again by K, as are the two after it): There were four baby cows two houses down and needless to day the boys were thrilled: Katherine and familly: Katherine and James: K took this one of Ben and it feels like an update of an image that Tara took of Ben a year and half ago. Here is Katherine's: and Tara's (from May 2008): Bookmark and Share

If I Were More Eloquent...

...I would have described my work almost exactly how one of my favorite photographers, Julie Blackmon, describes hers:“I believe there are moments that can be found throughout any given day that bring sanctuary. It is in finding these moments amidst the stress of the everyday that my life as a mother parallels my work as an artist, and where the dynamics of family life throughout time seem remarkably unchanged. As an artist and as a mother, I believe life’s most poignant moments come from the ability to fuse fantasy and reality: to see the mythic amidst the chaos.” Although our work is very, very different and I am no where near being her peer, I think her words are an amazingly accurate description about how I feel about my process as a photographer. If you are not familiar with her work, you should definitely check her out.

Another Saturday Night at Central Market

Josh and I and the boys headed over to Central Market last weekend for some dinner and some beer with Katherine and her entourage. Poor little Finn was sick so daddy James took him home before the fun began. We also ran into little Alex from Ben's school. That's one thing I love about CM--you always run into someone you know. Sweet Berry Farm

Katherine is a new friend of mine in Austin. I met her at an Austin Photographers get together and it turns out we have a mutual friend as well. Austin is a small town. A couple of months ago we went to Sweet Berry Farm with all of our boys to pick strawberries. Ben is often shy with new kids he meets and I can never really tell how he feels about them since he is a bit of a loner. That was not the case this day. Katherine's son Seamus and Ben immediately took up with each other like they had known each other for years. They are such boys together--running around like wild animals. I finally got around to processing these photos and there are some cute ones. The handsome little one is Finn. Bonnie Berry is an Austin, Texas child, family and wedding photographer.

Headshots | Austin Portrait Photographer

The other night we had our PUG meeting at Dustin Meyer's studio. It is situated in such a beautiful spot. We took some headshots of other photographers, which is always fun since we all hate having our pictures taken. My favorite shot is the last one of Kristen laughing. The fabulous and beautiful Kristen Brown Roedner: Dave McLaughlin and the lovely Ava: The oh so nice Thao Tran: Beautiful Huyen: Bonnie Berry is an Austin, Texas child, family and wedding photographer.

Amy's New Studio

My dear friend Amy Perl has a new photography studio on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. I was able to squeeze in some time with her last month when I was in California and I fell in love with her new space and all that she has done with it. I have always been a big fan of Amy's work and she helped really inspire me to get into photography again after Ben was born. I met her when I took Ben to have his portrait done by her when he was a wee one of four months and we became fast friends. And she still shoots film, so it is nice to have a resource for all my medium format questions like how do I load the camera? Yep. I have asked her stuff THAT basic. As you can see in the first image, I have started inserting myself into photos to prove that yes, I do indeed exist. Here are some of her beautiful images and her amazing new studio. All in the Family

When fellow Austin photographer Dave McLaughlin asked for someone to take a family photograph, I jumped at the chance. I LOVE Dave. He frequents my blog and has been incredibly supportive and generous with his kind words about my work. I finally got to meet him in person a few weeks ago and he is simply splendid. And now I know that his wife Kerri and their daughter Ava are just as lovely. My only regret is that I wasn't able to spend more time hanging out with them and taking pictures after the one more cup of coffee that I desperately needed. But I can simply hope that I will get another chance to capture them again. Bonnie Berry is an Austin based child, family and wedding photographer.

Good Golly Miss Mollie

This morning we met up with fellow photographer Mollie Donovan to do a little holiday photo swap. It was very cold and her daughter was feeling terrible and later turned out to have a fever of 104. But we persevered and I think she got some great shots. You can see them here. I only hope mine did her beautiful family justice.
